Job Description

We are looking for a Communication Support Worker to run Speech and Language groups, Social and Emotional learning groups and Holiday Camps for 21 Together, they will assist children and young people who have Down’s syndrome to develop all aspects of their communication skills. Some Saturday working is essential for this role.

The key responsibilities of this post will be:

  • To run communication groups for 21 Together under the supervision of the registered Symbol UK Speech and Language therapist or such other Speech and Language therapist as the Trustees shall determine from time to time
  • To run Speech and Language Holiday Camps twice a year for 2-3 days each, the details of such camps to be agreed between the 21 Together Trustees and the Co-Worker. Therapy input provided by Symbol UK
  • To create and use a variety of appropriate resources to support the development of communication skills
  • To undertake ongoing planning and monitoring of sessions
  • To maintain records for validation and inspection, especially of progress and outcomes
  • To assist in the supervision, training and development of the communication group assistants (if any) and the communication group Volunteers, under the supervision of the Speech and Language therapist
  • To share information with parents and carers

Ideally candidates will have experience of the following:

  • Experience of working with children or young people to improve their communication
    skills
  • Experience of providing support for people with Down’s syndrome and their families or of working with people with learning disabilities in social or educational environment
  • Experience of liaising with Speech and Language therapists
  • Experience of setting, monitoring and revising targets
