The Bay Trust, Kent’s Hidden Gem
We want to give a big shout out and a huge thank you to the Bay Trust in St Margaret’s Bay near Dover. They are kindly sponsoring the Wills and Trusts Training on Sunday 22nd January 2017.
They have given us free use the Pines Calyx eco-venue and are providing refreshments as well!
What is the Pines Calyx?
The Pines Calyx is a truly unique, sustainable venue set 6 acres of organic gardens. It is the first venue in Europe to be designed and built using the principles of cradle-to-cradle design, combining the healthiest environment with the lowest carbon footprint of any venue in the UK. To understand more about how this building connects to the wider context of the Trust’s work read on…
Who are the Bay Trust and what do they do?
The Bay Trust is an environmental education charity based at two campuses between Dover and Deal. Their mission is to empower children and adults to work towards a healthy, low impact way of living.
When you visit, everything around you is about reconnecting with the natural world. Their inspiring spaces include dedicated outdoor classrooms, the award winning Pines Calyx, and an organic garden and tea room. All these projects involve cooperating with nature to improve the biodiversity of the land they manage. They would not exist without the efforts of their dedicated trustees, staff and volunteers as well as the organisations they are partnered with.
Many different groups benefit from coming and using their facilities. Mainstream and special schools can visit for drop in sessions or week long residential stays. Adults with additional needs and the long term unemployed come daily to engage in gardening and admin skills. Individual learners from local colleges can take advantage of formal apprenticeships. These include horticulture and organic land management as well as skills in accounting and marketing for the third sector.
All of the programmes they offer are designed to enhance self awareness, nurture productive relationships and help manage personal or social challenges. These could range from limited opportunities, ill health, exclusion from mainstream education or simply a transition between different stages in life. Supporting people and the environment they inhabit is at the heart of what they do.
The venue is offered free of charge to local charities like 21 Together for 3 days every month. Please contact Simon McGhie on 01304 851 737 or via www.baytrust.org.uk to check availability and discuss T&C’s
Thank you Bay Trust for supporting 21 Together and the Kent community!
