Meet our office volunteer, Amy

Over the past two months, the 21 Together office team has had the privilege of having Amy around. Amy is our office volunteer, who reached out to us offering help with the general office admin.

Amy is a part of Bemix, a group which helps young people get into a work place with supported employment. Bemix host a bunch of different groups and activities including cooking, life choices, sportsnet and more.

There has been a variety of tasks that have been put into Amy's capable hands, which she sets about to get completed right away.

“I am the queen of laminating! I enjoyed the photocopying and making a social media post about my time so far volunteering in the office.”

Amy speaks with pride as she talks about the roles that she has been given in the office that she enjoyed the most. Integrating with the staff seamlessly and helping spread the workload between everyone.

When asked about how volunteering at 21 Together has helped prepare Amy for her next steps, she said,

“It has helped me with being confident around colleagues, completing tasks that have been asked of me, while being sure to speak up and ask for a hand if there is something I need help with. It has also helped me with making sure that I am on time in a professional environment.”

Spending time working in an office comes with its own little perks, for example, the snack drawer and the refreshment area. Coffee is constantly flowing in the office, but when it's time for a little pick me up, it is time to turn to the snack drawer and see what goodies are inside. Amy enjoys a coffee and a biscuit - particularly a Penguin!

From her experience volunteering here, Amy has hopes to go on and secure paid work in an office administration role. Amy thrives completing the tasks that are daily occurrences in an office environment, and has been an invaluable member of the 21 Together team.

Finally, we asked Amy what she would say to other people that are wanting to volunteer?

“I would recommend for other people to get out there and help out… it's great!”
