Regional Hubs

It takes a village to raise a child! How true that is.

That’s why we are launching our new REGIONAL HUB project.

Join a Region or Two!

Although we have an awesome and active community in Kent and Medway that’s not quite the same as when you are at a loose end being able to put out on the chat group “anyone fancy the park?”. That real local support network of families builds new connections and friendships that will last a lifetime.

We know the vital support that can come from a local friend who you can just catch up with for a coffee and be on call in an emergency to help support you. That’s why we have split Kent and Medway into 5 regional hubs, each hub will be run by volunteers from that area and provide a mixture of organised social gatherings, formal advisory support sessions with our Community Support Co-ordinator, and the much more flexible approach to connections of running an open WhatsApp group for those last minute catch ups.

Finally, a chance to access your local families whenever it is convenient for you.

To join your local group just click the ‘Join your regional group’ button above to join the whats app group. We will ask you some very basic questions and then send you to a direct link to join your group. Want to join more than one area? That’s absolutely fine, you can join as many as you wish. We are also looking for volunteers to support our regions. Read below to find out more or click this link to join your local group!

Regional Champions

Could you be a Regional Champion?

  • Are you organised?

  • Are you friendly and approachable?

  • Do you like meeting up with other parents and their children?

  • Are you passionate about raising awareness and support for families of children with Down’s syndrome?

  • If so then read on…

We are looking for Volunteer Regional Champions who can:

  • Champion their region and share ideas and social opportunities with other families.

  • Help monitor and reply to a regional WhatsApp group, adding new members and involving other families. The time taken will be up to you, sharing ideas and the workload is a great way of involving others too.

  • Facilitate the inclusion of new and existing families within social events across your region and the charity. The expectation would be a minimum of 3 get-togethers annually, although the more, the merrier! These could include a ‘picnic at the park’ or a games event, nothing too major and your role would just be to agree on a day and time and to share within your local area.

  • Take part in 2 meetings online across the year with other Regional Champions and the Community Support Co-ordinator, who will be available to support throughout the year too.
